Description:
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller will be responsible for oversight of all finance, accounting, and reporting activities. As partner to the CFO, the Controller will be involved in supporting presentations to the owners and lenders and will work closely with the senior leadership team.
The Controller will lead all day-to-day finance operations and supervise a team of 4+ staff members including functional responsibility over accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and Financial Reporting. The Controller will ensure that the Company has the systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation and conduct successful audits. The Controller will work closely with other department leaders and their staffs, not only to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures but also to explore how the finance function can support program operations and better integration across the organization.
Responsibilities:
* Manage all aspects of the US accounting and reporting function:
o Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions.
o Timely and accurate monthly company and consolidated accounting closes.
o Timely and accurate monthly and year to date company and consolidated financial statements.
o Monthly and year to date gross profit reporting by SKU and license.
o Monthly commission statements.
o Quarterly royalty reports to licensors.
o Annual audit/s process and preparation of certified financial statements
o Annual budget process, variance analysis and subsequent reforecasts.
* Manage all aspects of a key Hong Kong affiliate's accounting and reporting:
o Review the Hong Kong affiliate's books of original entry.
o Review the Hong Kong affiliate's journal entries.
o Review the Hong Kong affiliate's financial statements.
* Ability to communicate with all levels within the company and with key outside companies:
o Present monthly financial statements to the executive team including variance analyses.
o Meet with department heads weekly/months to review current issues/results.
o Work with logistics group to track inventory on hand and in transit.
o Communicate with customers, licensors, and sales reps, as required.
* Strong initiative and desire to excel and grow with a company:
o Ability to identify and implement process improvements.
o Ability to identify and implement automation initiatives.
o Ability to identify and implement cost savings initiatives.
o Ability to assess the competency and fit of current staff and built a strong effective Finance team.
* Ideally, industry related experience is a plus, but not required:
o Experience with an importer of goods.
o Experience with a US distributor.
o Experience with FOB business.
Qualifications:
* BS degree in accounting
* CPA preferred but not required.
* 4 or more years of experience preferably with some public accounting.
* Strong financial reporting skills - internal management and outside GAAP reporting.
* Supervisory experience desired - 2 or more direct reports.
* Strong excel skills and ability to utilize companies ERP system.
* Strong working knowledge of financial data analysis
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Knowledge of taxes is a plus.
