Building a data and AI capability for a global pharmaceutical organisation

AI & Data Science

Introduction

RED Global has been actively supporting a global pharmaceutical client in the build-out of its BI and Data team. The organisation’s core focus is generic drugs, alongside additional activities in branded drugs and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). Over three years of collaboration, we have helped transform how the organisation understands, analyses, and leverages its data, laying the foundation for smarter, data-driven decision-making across the business.

The Challenge

The client needed to modernise how it understood and leveraged its data. While valuable information existed, insights were fragmented and reporting was inconsistent. The goal was to convert complex siloed data into meaningful dashboards using Agentic Tools, to improve user adoption.

RED Global’s Approach

What began as a simple collaboration gradually evolved into a larger partnership. RED Global worked closely with the client’s internal data team to design both front-end reporting and back-end infrastructure. We placed over 20 external staff to complement the organisation’s internal experts, including data engineers, two highly ski led data scientists, and AI/data-focused specialists, each contributing uniquely to the evolving data landscape.

Project Overview

  1. Engineering & Data Science: Data engineers built reliable pipelines and systems to move and structure enormous volumes of information, while data scientists explored models, patterns, and innovative ways to extract insights.
  2. Reporting & Visualisation: Power BI became the central platform for dashboards, translating complex datasets into clear visual stories.
  3. AI & GenAI Integration: The team explored advanced AI models to enhance analytics and automate insights.
  4. Structured Collaboration: Carefully defined Statements of Work (SOWs) ensured the right mix of talent for each project, enabling tailored dashboards for different business areas.

Outcome

Through collaboration, experimentation, and a shared vision for data-driven decision-making, the partnership evolved into a fully developed capability within the organisation. Today, data, AI, and human creativity work side by side, empowering teams across the business with actionable insights and a culture of innovation.
